Noah Kagan was the 30th employee at Facebook. He understands social media in a way most of will never achieve. In a recent discussion on Big Campaigns (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=r3JqkIHbgAw) he weighed in on the best way to connect with your audience.
Surprisingly it wasn't Facebook, or even Instagram or Snapchat. It was email!
It wasn't long ago that people were discussing how social media was going to kill email marketing. Email marketing consistently gets lost in the buzz of new and exciting channels, but it shouldn't. Email allows companies to connect directly with their audience and, most importantly, you are not relying on another company's platform, and you don't have to be worried about sorting algorithms hiding your message.
This is why social media services rely on email themselves to drive traffic and engagement.
There is nothing more engaging that that email letting you know you've been tagged in a photo or mentioned in a post. Most people will immediately click on the email and check it out. It's been so effective that most social networks deliver regular emails teasing content you've missed, even if you are not specifically tagged.
Social media companies are leveraging this powerful tool, and their creators are singing its praises, so why are we always looking for the next thing? The next marketing channel that is going to kill email marketing.
